The abbey in the mist

THE ABBEY IN THE MIST
After a long walk in the fields
surrounded by moisty fog
passing by icy canals
the ancient abbey appears
alone on the plain and
covered with frost
An austere and mighty architecture
that creates a feeling of respect and mistery
in the dim afternoon light
Is this the place where we will succeed
to stop our nightmares
that torment us every night?
Will we finally find a meaning here
to what is happening or will this be the dead end
of our existence?
---
L'ABBAZIA NELLA NEBBIA
Dopo un lungo sentiero nei campi
immersi nella umida nebbia
fiancheggiando rogge ghiacciate
davanti ai nostri occhi
compare il complesso abbaziale
isolato nella pianura coperta di brina
Un'architettura austera e solenne
che nella fioca luce del pomeriggio
suscita rispetto e mistero

Danger from above

|

DANGER FROM ABOVE
We are looking at the closed gate of the abbey
when small debris fell on our iron armours
provoking slight metallic noises
We jump back immediately unsheathing our weapons
and looking up: two crows fly in the dark sky
their croaking is like a sinister omen
A false alarm?
The air is filled with expectation
Suddenly a black flock
appears from behind the abbey
and swoops on us
A horde of giant bats
attack us with bites and scratches
yearning for our blood
We are taken by surprise
but in a few time we are ready:
guardians of the ancient abbey, face our weapons!
Which dark secrects are you trying to protect?
---
PERICOLO DALL'ALTO
Stiamo osservando il portone serrato dell'abazia
quando piccoli detriti cadono sulle nostre armature
producendo lievi rumori metallici
Scattiamo indietro sguainando le armi
e guardiamo in alto:
due corvi spiccano il volo nel cielo scuro
gracchiando come in un sinistro presagio
Un falso allarme?
L'atmosfera è carica di attesa
Improvvisamente uno stormo nero
compare da dietro l'abbazia
e si lancia in picchiata su di noi
Un'orda di pipistrelli giganti
ci aggredisce con morsi e graffi
bramando il nostro sangue
Siamo presi di sorpresa
ma basta poco per farci scattare:
guardiani dell'abazia, assaggiate le nostre armi!
Quali oscuri segreti state proteggendo?

THE GRAVEYARD BEHIND THE CHURCH
The entrance is locked
we walk around the church
looking for a secondary door
A graveyard was built behind the church apse:
wooden crosses in line inside an enclosure
between fog and thick bushes
We feel a big danger
in this suspended atmosphere
full of thick humidity
Our attention is captured
by a small chapel
placed against the church
The script upon the entrance arch says:
"We are now what you will be
The one who forgot us, forgot himself"
An ossuary...we go inside with weapons in our hands...

IL CIMITERO DIETRO LA CHIESA
L'entrata è serrata
giriamo attorno alla grande chiesa
alla ricerca di un passaggio secondario
Dietro all'abside sorge un cimitero:
file di croci di legno dentro un recinto,
tra le sterpaglie e la nebbia
Avvertiamo un grande pericolo
in questa atmosfera sospesa
densa di oscura umidità
Il profilo di una piccola cappella
addossata alla chiesa
attira la nostra attenzione
La scritta sopra l'arcata d'ingresso recita:
"Ciò che sarete voi, noi siamo adesso
chi si scorda di noi, scorda se stesso"
Un ossario...entriamo armi in pugno...

THE DEAD RISE AGAIN INSIDE THE OSSUARY
Walls made of skulls and bones
worned out by time
as a mocking warning
to the death that awaits for us
Which kind of life
did the buried people lead?
A small altar, a candle holder
and...a key!
The key of the church door!
Fir comes closer and takes the key:
exactly at the same time
a silent and dark rumble
moves deep our bowels
Looking closely at the altar pedestal
Saroma discovers a rough script:
"This key will never leave the world of the dead
Otherwise the dead will come back into the world of the human beings"
Something terrible was happening
---
DENTRO L'OSSARIO I MORTI RISORGONO
Pareti di teschi e ossa
consumati dal tempo
come un monito beffardo
alla morte che ci aspetta
Quali vite condussero
coloro i cui resti
giacciono qui?
Un piccolo altare, un candelabro
e...una chiave!
La chiave del portone della chiesa!
Fir si avvicina e la prende:
proprio in quell'istante

Hunted by zombies
02:19
|

HUNTED BY ZOMBIES
We come out from the ossuary and...damn!
The dead are rising from their tombs:
hundreds of rotted hands and decrepit heads
are going out from the moist soil
and they are lusting for our living flesh
We run fast to the graveyard's exit
but some zombies block our way
We have to fight but we dont' have enough time!
Viktor's sword dismembers corpses
Bloodwyn's axe destroys bones
Garandir's sabre cut heads
but more zombies try to surround us
Suddenly Saroma shows her sacred symbol:
she faces the zombies
speaking ancient and solemn words
Zombies walk back with fear
opening a way out for our escape
Hunted and exausted we finally reach the church door
Fir puts the key inside the lock and turns it
the door opens and we are able to close it at our back
while zombies are near to cross the entrance
We are safe now, alone inside the sacred building
but the sound of the claws on the wooden surface
still gives us shivers running down our spine.

BRACCATI DAI MORTI
Usciamo dall'ossario e...orrore!
e fronteggia i morti
pronunciando parole arcane e solenni
Gli zombi arretrano
improvvisamente impauriti
aprendoci uno spiraglio per la fuga
Braccati, raggiungiamo
il portone della chiesa
Fir inserisce subito la chiave nella toppa:
il portone si apre e
noi riusciamo a richiuderlo alle nostre spalle
proprio quando un gruppo di zombi
era sul punto di entrare
Siamo salvi, chiusi dentro il sacro edificio
ma il suono degli artigli degli zombi
contro la superficie di legno del portone
continua a darci i brividi lungo la schiena.

ANCIENT STORIES OF MARTYRS
In the church surrounded by darkness
we see frescos on the secondary naves
that tell about horribles tortures
Our torches light up faces of martyrs
with eyes turned towards the sky
to find a meaning in the pain of the flesh
In the name of which evil deity
or primordial instinct
was all this possible?
---
o istinto primordiale
è stato possibile tutto questo?

The Saint's sword

THE SAINT'S SWORD
In the dim light that passes
through the church window transparency
we see a chapel where a stone statue stands
with a peaceful look
It offers us a sword
made of brilliant steel
Viktor comes closer and,
after getting a look to Saroma,
takes the sword and wields it
A feeling of mighty and integrity
immediatly sounds in his heart.
We feel that the saint's sword will help us
to break this dark curse

LA SPADA DEL SANTO
Nella debole luce che filtrava
dalle vetrofanie della chiesa
scorgiamo una cappella
dove sorge una statua
dallo sguardo pacifico
Porge verso di noi
una spada dall'acciaio scintillante.
Viktor si avvicina e,
dopo uno sguardo a Saroma,
la prende e la brandisce.
Una sensazione di forza e rettitudine
gli vibra improvvisamente nel cuore.
La spada del santo pare voler aiutarci
a spezzare questa oscura maledizione

Shreds of cenobitic life

SHREDS OF CENOBITIC LIFE
Monks rooms
all the same, all bare
with few simple objects
that tell about lives
of rituals and prayers
How many generations have lived here?
What has happened here
to unleash such a terrible curse?
Garandir notices an inscription
on the wall of a room:
"Bran the monk does not surrender to the evil"

BRANDELLI DI VITA CENOBITICA
Stanze di monaci
tutte uguali, tutte spoglie

FIGHTING HAND-TO-HAND IN THE CHAPTER HOUSE
We enter carefully in the chapter house and
we see a solemn scene in front of us:
a dozen figures sit
around the big table
monks with robes
and skeletal and rotted faces
They are there,
like time stood still,
to remember a ritual
deformed by evil
Suddenly the monk in the center
stands up with an inhuman movement,
moving a cloud of dust, and
points his finger at us
In a second
all monks stand
and attack us
It's our destiny to face another raging fighting
against dead men brought back to life
by this terrible curse
The monk that was sitting in the center
bites Fir that falls back
and lays paralyzed on the floor
we cannot flee anymore
letting die one of us:
we have to fight until the end!
---
CORPO A CORPO NELLA SALA DEL CAPITOLO
Entriamo cauti nella sala capitolare e
uno spettacolo solenne ci si para davanti:
una dozzina di figure sedute
attorno al grande tavolo
monaci con il saio
e i volti scheletrici e tumefatti
Erano rimasti lì,
come se il tempo si fosse fermato,
a ricordare un rituale
deformato dalla malvagità
Improvvisamente il monaco al centro
si alza con un movimento inumano,
smuovendo una nube di polvere, e
ci indica con un gesto sinistro.
E' un attimo:
tutti gli altri monaci si alzano
e ci attaccono
contro uomini morti riportati in vita
da questa terribile maledizione.
Il monaco che sedeva al centro
morse Fir che cadde all'indietro
e rimase a terra paralizzato
Non possiamo più fuggire
condannando uno dei nostri a morte certa:
dobbiamo combattere sino alla fine!

THE CONSPIRACY OF MONKS IN BRAN'S DIARY
In the library we find some useful scrolls
with healing spells and we decide to use them.
We rest for a couple of hours
Zothen, Saroma and Garandir
start reading books searching for clues
that can explain the abbey's curse
Hidden in a shelf, Fir finds a small creased book.
the title is "The diary of monk Bran":
it tells about the life in the abbey
and also about a secret conspiracy organized by some monks
to conquer dark powers
The last phrase is:
"Now everything is lost, we will die.
I hope that my body will be buried
in the secret crypt behing the church altar.
Let the gods will"

LA CONGIURA DEI MONACI NEL DIARIO DI BRAN
Nella biblioteca troviamo alcune utili pergamene
di incantesimi curativi e decidiamo di usarle.
Ci accampiamo per qualche ora
Zothen, Saroma e Garandir
leggono i libri
alla ricerca di indizi
che possano spiegare
la maledizione dell'abbazia
Fir ritrova nascosto in uno scaffale
un piccolo volume sgualcito.
Si intitola "Il diario del monaco Bran".
Racconta della vita nell'abazia
e di una congiura che alcuni monaci
stavano segretamente architettando
per acquisire oscuri poteri
L'ultima frase recita:
"Oramai tutto è perduto, non ci resta che
soccombere. Spero almeno che il mio corpo
venga riposto nella cripta segreta sotto l'altare della chiesa.
Sia fatto il volere degli dei"

WHY IS THERE POISON IN THE REFECTORY?
We enter carefully
in the room that should be
the refectory
Wodden tables and chairs
decorated by careful hands
are now empty and dusty
In the next room, the kitchen,
we find some potions.
Zothen examines the liquid with care: poison!
No color, no taste,
slow but relentless effects!
What's the purpose of those deadly doses?
Our eyes fall on a woodden table
of the refectory where this phrase is carved:
"Let the Saint bring harmony"
---
A COSA PUO' SERVIRE IL VELENO NEL REFETTORIO ?
Entriamo con cautela
in quella che doveva essere
la sala del refettorio
I tavoli e le sedute di legno
intarsiati con paziente maestria
sono vuoti e impolverati
Nella stanza accanto, la cucina,
troviamo una serie di pozioni
Zothen esamina attentamente il liquido: veleno!
Incolore, insapore, lenti
ma inesorabili gli effetti
A cosa servivano queste dosi mortali?

Descending into darkness

DESCENDING INTO DARKNESS
Monk Bran's diary tells
about a secret crypt behind the altar.
Back to the church Fir discovers the secret door:
it was exactly where Bran wrote!
But it is closed. A writing carved in the stone tells:
"Only the one who knows the rule
can go down to the crypt of the dead"
Saroma speaks loud:
"Let the Saint bring harmony"
The door suddenly opens
showing stairs that
descend into darkness
We walk down with caution and fear,
knowing that soon we will face the final fight...
---
SCENDENDO VERSO L'OSCURITA'
Saroma dice a voce alta:
"Il santo porti concordia"
La porta si spalanca
mostrandoci una scala che
scende nell'oscurità
Scendiamo tremanti, sapendo che
saremo presto allo scontro finale...

SHOWDOWN IN THE CRYPT OF THE DEAD
Climbing down to the lower step
our torches can light the octagonal room:
in the alcoves on every side of the walls
there are glass tombs with living dead
trapped inside that are moving desperately
Eyes wide open, a supernatural pain
seems to torment their lost souls
In the bigger alcove there is a smashed statue
but in front a spectral silhouette is standing,
with two living dead at his side.
We immediatly recognize him:
the Black Priest, back from the world of the dead,
is claiming again our souls!
With a frightening sneer, he attacks us
His touch steals the soul and
we instictly understand that normal weapons
are useless.
Zothen and Garandir cast immediatly
all the spells that they still have
Let the Saint's Sword help us
in this desperate fight
---
LA RESA DEI CONTI NELLA CRIPTA DEI MORTI
Sceso l'ultimo gradino
Zothen e Garandir scagliano subito
tutti gli incantesimi di cui sono dotati
Che la Spada del Santo possa aiutarci
in questo scontro disperato

Still alive !

|

STILL ALIVE!
"The evil is good, the good is evil!"
Repeating these words, with a horrible laugh,
the Black Priest vanishes
going back to the evil abyss where he came from
Around us, wounded, tired and shocked,
the dead trapped in the glass tombs are still moving.
We look to the smashed statue and
we recognize it: it's a statue of the Saint!
The monks conspiracy
has been probably shattered
against the power of the Saint
and his profanation has unleashed
the evil curse
Looking near the alcove where the broken statue stands
Garandir sees a low relief on the wall.
Viktor comes closer and, after a while,
he puts on it the Saint's sword that fits perfectly.
As in a magic show,
the statue starts to recreate itself
and a feeling of peace and stillness
surrounds the crypt
---
ANCORA VIVI !
"Il male è il bene, il bene è il male!"
Ripetendo queste parole, accompagnate da un'orribile risata
il Sacerdote Nero si era polverizzato,
tornando nell'abisso malvagio da cui era provenuto
Attorno a noi, feriti, stanchi e sconvolti
Come in uno spettacolo magico
la statua si ricompone
e una sensazione di pace e quiete
avvolge la cripta.

LET THE DEAD REST IN PEACE
The dead in the alcove now are resting in peace,
the curse is defeated.
In bad shape but happy, we hug ourselves
forgetting the wounds for a while.
We take magic objects and treasures from the crypt
and we walk out from the church, in a new sunshine morning
that warms the plain
in a clear winter day
Walking home, on the path,
we look back to see for the last time
the majestic abbey,
scene of this adventure
We look each other in our eyes:
the joy for the avoided danger
the quest done and the treasures conquered is great
but some doubts are paving the way in our mind
May the last words of the Black Priest
give an unexpected meaning
to our fight between good and evil?
---
CHE I MORTI RIPOSINO IN PACE
I morti nelle teche ora riposano in pace
Ci guardiamo negli occhi:
