HDK 162 † The Black Smiling Cloud

by HOPPO'S QUEST

/
1.
Hoppo finds himself in a dark cave surrounded by hundreds of small, shiny eyes that watch him greedily. The noise of the drops falling from the stalactites joins the rusty clang of the forks that the goblins brandish as weapons and the pots they use as helmets.
2.
The tension is broken by the hungry sound of one of the goblins' empty stomachs, followed by a rotting arrow cutting through the humid air of the cave. Hoppo escapes by running as hard as he can, hurling himself among the rocks into the depths of the earth; believing he has outmaneuvered his enemies, he does not realize that they are the ones who have stopped, terrified. He has entered Ogre territory.
3.
The overexcited scream of the ogre princess welcomes Hoppo into a room as sump- tuous as it is nefarious. Huge Ogres covered in gold and diamonds immediately cap- ture the hero, dragging him towards what appears to be a grotesque wedding altar. The king accompanies the bride, four goblins in chains holding up the gigantic lace dress, along a macabre procession.
4.
The honeymoon lasts several days during which Hoppo tries to rest on the wedding bed, but the vision of his bride and his eternal vigil haunts him. The expression of her madly in love with him opens into a smile revealing her rotten and bare gums.
5.
Finally alone in the wedding gift room, looking for an escape route, Hoppo moves a vase, unexpectedly freeing a crumpled Persian carpet. It takes flight, and after shaking off the dust it heads towards a hidden corridor, almost beckoning Hoppo to follow it. Making their way through hidden corridors the two emerge at the entrance of a ghost bazaar. There doesn't seem to be a living soul, a baleful breeze moves the torn curtains and the broken baskets are arranged along a straight line that leads to the horizon, dominated in the distance by a black cloud with a mocking grin.
6.
Leaving the bazaar behind, Hoppo wanders crushed by the black sun, perpetually at the zenith. Days pass and the star doesn't seem to move. The more his body drains and his blood boils, the more his mind wanders gently delirious into the past, accepting the end.
7.
After losing consciousness, a saving shower: his eyes open upon meeting the sibyl- line gaze of a reptile with a jug of water. Finally a friend!
8.
Snake death 04:09
The two are playing carefree near an oasis, when a strange bubbling noise attracts their attention. Hoppo brings his hand to his sword, which slips inexorably. Every- thing is viscous. The sand turns into slime and the snake utters his last words, drowning in the slime and his friend's tears.
9.
The Slug King presents himself in all his purulent majesty. Two horrible heads laugh over each other at Hoppo's mourning; Hoppo tries to free himself from the greenish and itchy bubbles that explode around him, giving off unspeakable stench and hurt- ing him. Will Hoppo survive? We will find out in the next episode of the Hoppo saga.

about

Oh yes, this is the first case of an HDK character's "remake": Hoppo was, in fact, the protagonist of a small album released many years ago (HDK 36), and now returns in a completely different guise.

⚔️🦇⚔️🦇⚔️🦇⚔️

Little remains of that light-hearted Hoppo and his fairy-tale world: in his 2024 version Hoppo wanders in a gloomy land inhabited by strange creatures, oppressed by magic and at the mercy of a cruel god. The search for happiness has given way to a struggle for survival in a world beyond the understanding of our poor protagonist, forced to find his way out of grotesque situations.

⚔️🦇⚔️🦇⚔️🦇⚔️

With its alienating sound and strange pace, this album will certainly attract the attention of the most curious. thanks to the music you can relive Hoppo's embarrassing and mocking adventures.
