The situation was at a standstill:
both factions were ready to tear each other to pieces
but no one was making the first move yet.

Drenched in sweat, Viktor peered at Malabaku with eyes of fire.
Sarohma had realized that this man really only wanted
to avenge the treacherous killing of his father,
lured by the duke under false pretences
and then slaughtered and thrown into the sea along with his entire crew.

Zothen, without anyone noticing, had instead taken action:
he had cast a telepathy spell and was mentally talking to someone in the cave. Garandir looked at the ghostly figure of Hakim Makhno,
for an instant it seemed to her that the spectre’s empty eyes
regained a semblance of humanity.
But perhaps it was only an impression...

Then a female voice, frail and trembling, said:
“Malabaku...please listen to me...”

La situazione era in stallo
entrambe le fazioni eravamo pronti a farsi a pezzi
ma nessuno ancora faceva la prima mossa.
Madido di sudore, Viktor scrutava Malabaku
con occhi di fuoco.

Sarohma aveva capito che quell'uomo
in realtà, voleva soltanto vendicare
l'uccisione a tradimento di suo padre
attirato dal duca con l'inganno
e poi trucidato e gettato in mare
assieme a tutto il suo equipaggio

Zothen, senza che nessuno se ne accorgesse, invece
era passato all'azione: aveva lanciato un incantesimo di telepatia
e stava parlando mentalmente con qualcuno nella grotta

Garandir guardava la figura spettrale di Hakim Makhno
per un istante gli parve che gli occhi vuoti del necrospettro
riacquistassero una parvenza di umanità
ma forse era solo un'impressione...

Poi una voce femminile, fragile e tremante, disse
"Malabaku...ascoltami"
